EU Parliament publishes new analyses on options for human rights due diligence legislation, incl. on scope, enforcement & access to justice

There is growing momentum towards mandatory due diligence, both at EU and Member State level. On 29 April 2020, the EU Commissioner for Justice announced that the Commission commits to introducing rules for mandatory corporate environmental and human rights due diligence. 

To inform the EU Parliament’s discussions aimed at developing its position, the Parliament Human Rights Subcommittee (DROI) requested two briefings on specific human rights related issues it should consider. The first briefing addresses substantive elements concerning the scope of a future EU regulation. The second briefing discusses options for monitoring and enforcement of due diligence obligations, as well as different ways to ensure access to justice for victims of human rights abuses. 

The briefings will be presented at the joint hearing of the three committees (DROI, JUST, INTA) of the European Parliament on 22 June. The livestream will be available here.
